Imagine for a moment that every morning when you wake up, a secret benefactor makes a deposit of $86,400 into your bank account. There is only one catch; each day, anything that you have NOT spent will be taken from you. Now if you knew that this was going to happen each day, what would you do?
When I ask participants this question, no one hesitates, the answers are always the same, spend everything and make sure there is not one cent left in the bank! Have you guessed what the metaphor is? There are 86,400 seconds in every day and each one vanishes forever. We need to make the most of the limited time we have available, yet many of us will procrastinate and waste time. You can’t waste anyone’s time but your own.
The real key is to spend your time wisely on activities that will ‘compound’ over time and deliver ongoing benefits. What would happen to your sales if you did a fantastic job for your top 20 clients rather than a mediocre one for 200 of them?
